I was pleased about the tonality, atmospheric sense within the movie and striking that balance. What did I learn from that experience? Where did I fail? What was successful? I always analyze everything and look at what I could have done better. I actually asked myself a lot because I've gone through my career asking myself exactly that.

McQuoid: That's something that I'll try and answer succinctly, but there's a lot to that question. Coming from a successful background in directing adverts, what were the biggest lessons you learned? Thompson: For a lot of people, the reality of making their first feature can be very different from what they think it would be like. As you know, in the film industry, it takes a while to get things going, so, for now, I'll be concentrating on both pathways. I guess I'm greedy because I'd say I'd like to do both. Doing Mortal Kombat and working in that world, I feel like I've learned a lot of stuff I can apply if it turns out that we do a sequel which I still don't know for sure. I'm excited to see what else I can get my teeth into. I've got some things I'm working on, but there's nothing set in stone yet. I'm excited and interested to do something very different and about where that can go. All I will say is that I feel like I can do both. McQuoid: You are the first person I've spoken to, other than my family, my friends, or the studio, where this new reality is being discussed. Thompson: If this does become a franchise, would you want to remain hands-on and continue to direct them, or, as this was your debut feature, do you want to try something else? Director Simon McQuoid on the set of 'Mortal Kombat.' Mark Rogers/Warner Bros.
